Inpatient Pharmacy Technician - $4,000 Sign-On Bonus

JOB SUMMARY: Performs tasks within the pharmacy in direct support of the ongoing duties and responsibilities of a pharmacist with occasional guidance. Tasks performed contribute directly to the preparation and/or dispensing of a final dosage form for administration to a patient and are directly supervised by a pharmacist. Provides customer service by answering phone requests and triaging calls to the appropriate person if they cannot answer the requested information. Applies departmental processes regarding inventory control.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists the pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing and/or distribution of medications.

• Applies departmental processes regarding inventory control.
• Performs activities as directed by Pharmacists &/or Pharmacy Managers in accordance with federal, state and local laws/regulations and hospital policies.
• Delivers outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
• Operates computer systems and utilizes technology.
• The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.

SIGN-ON BONUS:

• $4,000 (taxable)
• The sign-on bonus is not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past one year.

• VUAH Inpatient Pharmacy provides numerous shift and job responsibility options to their technicians - all within the same department.
• Opportunities to be cross trained in different areas available.

• Current employees have the option to apply for transfer to other areas/shifts after 6 months in their current role.
• Areas & shifts include:

• Central Pharmacy (1^st Shift)

• 8 hour shifts - every 3^rd weekend

• Sterile Products (1^st Shift)

• 8 and 10 hours shifts - every 4^th weekend

• Narcotic Room (1^st Shift)

• 8 hour shifts - every 3^rd weekend

• OR Pharmacy (1^st Shift)

• 8 hour shifts - every 3^rd weekend

• Medication History Technician (1^st & 2^nd Shift)

• 8 hour shifts - every 3^rd weekend

• Evening Shift (Central, IV, OR)

• 8 hour shifts - every 3^rd weekend

• Third Shift (Central, IV, OR)

• 7-on/7-off (40 hours per week average)

Qualifications - External

• High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience) and < 1 year Graduation from ASHP or PTCB accredited technician training program, or six months prior experience.
  
• Tennessee Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration must be obtained within 90 days of employment. PTCB/NHA National Pharmacy Technician Certification. Per Pharmacy Department policy, all new hires are subject to pre-employment drug screening (post offer), as well as for cause and random drug screening during their tenure with Vanderbilt.
