The role you’ll contribute:
The Specialty Processing Technician performs a wide range of duties to assist our patients with certain chronic illnesses to receive consistent clinical care and obtain financial assistance. Specialty prescription items are often very expensive, and require an extra level of care and attention above and beyond non-specialty items. This position will work closely with pharmacists, patients, providers, and others to coordinate medication access and adherence for complex disease states. This position will work with primary and secondary payors to assure the patient has their medication in a timely fashion with the best pricing. He or she will be responsible for assisting with processing prescriptions through the pharmacy system, coordination of medication refills, and setting up shipments and deliveries with the patients via phone. Works only under the supervision of a registered Pharmacist and does not perform duties that can only be legally performed by a registered Pharmacist.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Enters new prescription orders assuring that all information is correct including proper patient, drug, medication, directions, refills, and physician are selected at order entry. Checks for completeness of all required items including all necessary diluents and ancillary supplies.
Maintains working appointment calendar in Outlook to keep track of upcoming patient refills or appointment dates to make sure medication is delivered in a timely fashion.
Selects appropriate shipping method for the order, verifies shipping address and date according to specialty department processes or patient’s request making sure that the correct and most cost effective method is always used and the pharmacy service standards are being met.
Helps patients obtain copay assistance. Communicate with copay assistance company as needed to fix billing issues.
Communicates copays to patients and receive approval before billing. Assures all requests and payments are complete before processing orders. Makes sure all available copay assistance methods have been billed.
Processes incoming mail / faxes / physician phone prescriptions/ SureScripts/ transfers/ refill requests in an accurate and timely manner as assigned by Manager and/or Lead Specialty Technician.
Requests special drop ship items from the pharmacy purchasing technician based on processing procedures. Provides all information necessary to obtain from pharmacy wholesaler.
Communicates with automation technician assigned to specialty filling area to ensure patient orders are filled in a timely manner. Also communicates to automation team expected ship dates so shipments will go out on the correct day
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Two years retail, hospital or mail-order pharmacy setting.
A current Florida Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration, RPT; Must complete state required continuing education requirement for registration.
National Pharmacy Technician Certification, CPhT; complete national required continuing education requirement for registration, preferred
